CS
GA Volunteers

The CSGA has a long and proud history of promoting the best interests of golf by serving member clubs and by providing quality golfing events for Connecticut golfers.  Through its Mission Statement the CSGA commits itself to providing the highest level of service in administering course ratings, conducting tournaments, and administering handicap services.

In 2006 the CSGA course rating volunteers re-rated 19 golf courses. This is a requirement of the USGA at least every 10 years and more often if a course is new or has had extensive modifications.

The CSGA conducted 49 tournament competitions over 60 playing days in 2006.  These competitions ranged from one-day tournaments to premier Amateur Championships for juniors, adult and senior golfers, as well as Open Championships for women and men.  The CSGA conducted qualifiers for USGA Championships as well.  The 2007 tournament schedule has been expanded and will be organizationally more demanding.

What does it take to host these competitions?  It takes, of course, the VOLUNTEER.  The CSGA volunteer is the cornerstone to the success of the organization.  The CSGA would not be able to operate efficiently without the services of hundreds of volunteers who have loyally served over the years.  Every year the CSGA needs the assistance of volunteers to staff the organization and to run its events.

The roles that volunteers play range from Member Club representatives, course raters, scorers and assistant scorers, receptionists, starters, rules officials, spotters, to technical specialists, office helpers, and others.  A volunteer is any person who is willing to help perform any one of a host of vital functions.  There are unlimited opportunities to get involved and to help in almost any capacity.  The rewards are meeting new people, making new friends, seeing new venues, having that great feeling of contributing to the traditions of the game, and knowing that you have made an important contribution.

Give volunteering a try.  This is a great opportunity for retirees their friends, and those who would enjoy a date out of the office or shop.  Any time you can contribute will be greatly appreciated.  Contact your local CSGA Club Representative, contact the CSGA Offices at 860-257-4171.
