Mission Statement
The mission of the CSGA is to promote and
preserve the best interests and true spirit of the game of golf by
serving its member clubs and their golf members.
The CSGA will provide the highest level of service in
administering course ratings, conducting tournaments, and certifying
and issuing handicap indexes through its member clubs using best
practices developed by the United States Golf Association (USGA).
The CSGA will maintain professional relationships and work with
other golf associations in the state of Connecticut, throughout New
England and the Metropolitan Golf Association.
Services of the Connecticut State Golf Association
Computerized Handicapping: More than 52,000 golfers through the USGAs GHIN
system. Computer support for all member-clubs.
An excellent tournament-pairing program supplied and supported by the CSGA. We provide
professional hands-on training for all member club personnel responsible for handicapping
and tournaments. The CSGA as a member of the International Association of Golf
Administrators (IAGA) provides members the ability to post their scores from anywhere in
North America and various other countries including Hong Kong.
Source of Information: Provide answers to member clubs to questions concerning
member handicaps, rules of golf, tournament schedules, course ratings and other golf
related concerns.
Course Rating: In accordance with the USGAs new course
rating system. Two course-rating teams provide this service to all member
clubs across the state. The teams are made up of 10 experienced course raters. In this
process we work closely with the club pro and superintendent so they can accurately handle
questions that members may have concerning the clubs rating.
Course Marking: Advise on marking hazards, obstructions, out-of-bounds, etc.

Newsletter: Distributed periodically to all members.
Inner City Youth Golf Camp: Supported through the USGA Intern Program.
Rules Education: Seminars held at various times through the year on the rules of
golf. Open to all members of the CSGA.
State Championships: Approximately 3000 golfers participate in the CSGAs 52
championship and qualifying events. A short list includes the Amateur Championship, Open
Championship, Junior Championship, Mid-Amateur Championship, Senior Championship,
Womens Open Championship, Father & Son and Father & Daughter Championships,
Public Links Championship, and various USGA qualifying tournaments.
The CSGA is indebted to our member clubs for the success and high quality of the above
events.

Amateur Status Reinstatement: In concert with the USGA examines the application of
individuals seeking amateur status reinstatement.
Affiliate Organizations: The CSGA works closely with The USGA, The Connecticut
Section PGA, The Connecticut Womens Golf Association, The Southern New England
Womens Golf Association, the New England Golf Association, the Connecticut Golf
Course Superintendents Association, The Connecticut Club managers Association and other
regional and state golf associations. The CSGA supports some of these relationships with
annual donations.
Expert Operation: Managed by a professional staff and a committee of volunteers of
well-respected people in business, accounting, the legal profession, and golf; the CSGA
promotes and serves the best interests of the game. We are here to service our member
clubs on a personal level through our Club Representative Program. This fosters an open
communication channel with member clubs to assist them with any questions concerning
handicaps, rules of golf, tournament schedule and administration, and any golf related
questions that would otherwise be handled solely by local club expertise.
Hall of Fame: The CSGA assumed stewardship of the Connecticut Golf Hall of Fame in 1991.
Club Representative Program: Established in 1997, this program uses an active,
interested club member to serve as a liaison between the CSGA and the club. The state is
divided into 5 regions. Each region has a Regional Vice-President, a Club
Representative-at-Large, and Club Representatives for clubs in each region. All
correspondence with the club is first directed through the Club Representative and that
regions management.
Government Relations: The CSGA monitors legislation that may affect the operations
of its member clubs in Connecticut.
Scholarship Program: Amounts approximating $55,000 are awarded annually to deserving candidates from all

Foundation: Dedicated to maintaining partnerships with various businesses and
associations that wish to promote the game of golf. Working to establish a central
location for all Connecticut Golf Associations.

2006 Revision Schedule
Annual Meeting: Usually conducted in December. Attended by officers, member club
officers, tournament players, player-of-the-year, committee chairs, members, and staff.
