CSGA
Wins 39th Julius Boros Challenge Cup
May
6, 2010 – For the first time since 1983 the CSGA
team has defeated the CT Section PGA team in back to
back years. The
39th Julius Boros Challenge Cup was
played at Tumble Brook Country Club in Bloomfield
for the fourth time but first since 1974.
The amateur team had never earned a victory
at Tumble Brook until this year’s 34-29 win.
Dick
Weigold, Torrington CC, who won the 72nd Connecticut
Amateur, captained the CSGA team.
The team was led by 2009 Tettelbach Player of
Year Jeff Hedden from Black Hall Club and included
players who have collectively won every CSGA major
championship.
Hedden,
who was six-under par on his own ball, won all three
individual points from Connecticut Section PGA
captain Tony Kelley.
The team of Randy Hoder, New Haven CC, and
Peter Roisman, the club champion at Tumble Brook CC,
took all of the nine points available in their
match. Challenge
Cup newcomer; Rudy Hermstadt of East Mountain GC was
the other member of the CSGA team to win all three
points in his individual match.
This
victory gives the CSGA its third win in the last
five years and brings the CSGA Challenge Cup victory
total to eleven.
