76th
Connecticut Open Field Announced
July
17, 2010 – After five qualifying sites throughout the state the
field for the 76th Connecticut Open has been finalized.
One hundred forty-two players will tee it up at The Country
Club of Fairfield on July 26 with the hopes of earning the
Connecticut Open title.
This
is the second time that Country Club of Fairfield has hosted the
Connecticut Open. The
first was ten years ago. That
year Kyle Gallo playing out of Timberlin Golf Club earned the
victory, the second of his three Open wins, with a three round
total 209. The
runner-up that year is also last year’s Connecticut Open winner
Frank Bensel who will not be defending his title this year.
This
year’s field features ten past champions including two players
with three wins. Besides
Gallo’s three
Connecticut
Open wins, Kevin Giancola from Golf Quest also earned three
victories with his most recent coming in 1994 at Wethersfield
Country Club. John
Gentile, Jim Becker and current Champions Tour player Ken Green
have each earned themselves two wins.
Country
Club of
Fairfield
was founded in 1914 by Oliver Gould Jennings and officially opened
in 1921. The 6640 yard
par 70 course was originally designed by Seth Raynor and has had
two modifications including the most recent by Robert Trent Jones.
All
players will play eighteen holes on both Monday, July 26th
and Tuesday, July 27th.
The field will then be cut to the top forty players
including ties for the final round on Wednesday, July 28th.
